THE

FESTIVAL

Celebrating 60 years of Bossa Nova

BOSSA NOVA is one of the most elegant and beautiful music styles

created in the 20th century in Brazil as a combination of Brazilian samba and

American jazz. It was founded and popularized in the late 50’s and 60’s and today is the best-known Brazilian music genre in the world. The phrase Bossa Nova means literally “new trend”, “new wave” or “fashionable

way”.... In Brazil, the word “bossa" is an old-fashioned slang for something

that is done with particular charm…Bossa Nova was created and

developed by such legends as Antonio Carlos Jobim, João Donato, Carlos

Lyra, João Gilberto, Roberto Menescal, Marcos Valle, Caymmi family...

After the historic Bossa Nova concert at Carnegie Hall in 1962, Bossa Nova

became one of the world’s most fashionable and sophisticated music styles

and remains as such until today. It has been an important part of the

repertoire of Frank Sinatra, Ells Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Stan Getz,

Herbie Mann, Cannonball Adderley, Sarah Vaughan, Diana Krall, Tony

Bennett, Paul McCartney, Sting, Charles Aznavour, Julio Iglesias, Dean Martin…

2018 marks the 60 years of Bossa Nova, widely celebrated in many

countries. We have been presenting Bossa Nova around the world for

many years and it is our honor to produce The First “VIVA BOSSA NOVA”

Miami International Festival from October 24 to 28, 2018, which, as we very

much hope, will become an important spot on Miami’s cultural map for

many years to come…
